From the intelligence
headquarters to
the city

The move from Gandhinagar to Surat in 2023 is the pivot of this record: from a headquarters role built around assessment and reporting, to a city command role built around visible presence, immediate decision and public answerability.

The postings that follow are all within the Surat City Police Commissionerate.

  1. 2023July / August

Joint Commissioner of Police, Sector 1, Surat City

Transferred from the state intelligence establishment to Surat City as Joint Commissioner of Police, Sector 1. The Gujarat Police IPS civil list records his posting to Surat City Sector I from 3 August 2023.

A city commissionerate of Surat’s size is divided into sectors, each under a senior officer responsible for the police stations, zones and divisions within it.

How this
archive was built

Each entry above was checked against at least one of the following before it was written: the Gujarat Police list of IPS officers, Government of India empanelment and deputation records, Nagaland state police records, Gujarat government transfer orders, Ministry of Home Affairs medal announcements, and established news organisations reporting on official orders.

Where sources disagree on a detail, the official cadre record has been preferred over secondary reporting. Where a date could not be established — the start of the Nagaland deputation, for example — no date has been supplied. Early-career district appointments that do not appear in accessible public records have been omitted rather than reconstructed.
